Vote Maier for effective leadership in CR

Today I’m doing something new — writing to endorse someone for Cedar Rapids City Council.
There is no other place where our vote has more impact than here at home where we can meet our leaders, shake their hands, and tell them what we need. Our City Council is made up of our neighbors; no other elected officials have a higher stake in the city’s direction than our local government, and no others are as accessible.
David Maier is a volunteer and donor for the nonprofit where I work. He has a great job with a large corporation but keeps a low profile. He and his husband are generous donors but they always give to small, grassroots organizations where their money will have big impact, not where their names are most visible. He shops at the small local businesses that keep the lights on for so many of us because he knows how much each customer matters.
David is a whiz with finances and efficiency. Is there anyone currently on the council who has the credentials and experience to look at the budget and departments to ensure our dollars are being used as effectively as possible? This seems like a pretty important skill set for good city oversight.
I’ve concluded that David is genuinely thoughtful and passionate about making people’s lives better. He has skills vital to running the city efficiently. To me the question is, why wouldn’t we vote for David?
