It started in May with friendly visits from Terry Bilsland and Habitat for Humanity leaders. On June 1, a small group of folks came onto my property and began scraping my house in preparation for painting; others brought in paint and supplies for other tasks.
On June 13, a group of about 20 young people and their supervisors, began doing their job assignments. All work was to be completed by June 17. Two days were rained out, but they still completed the project on time. They transformed my house and front yard into a beautiful place.
I was overwhelmed with admiration for not only the excellent quality of their work, but their friendliness, caring and eagerness. I couldn't be more happy to have encountered such a terrific group of people from all over the United States who have only helping others on their minds.
Cedar Rapids should feel honored AmeriCorps chose our city to accomplish their kind deeds for so many families. To Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity, a Brush with Kindness and Terry Bilsland, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
