Volunteers can help build better communities
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 16, 2011 11:03 am
In celebration of National Volunteer Week (it was April 10-16), we'd like to recognize volunteers who dedicate their time, talents and passion to improving our community and making tomorrow better than today.
With the recent announcement of 2020 Vision Goals for the Common Good, we also want to encourage you to discover your power to make a difference. Volunteer engagement and multi-sector collaborations are needed to achieve these ambitious goals:
l Decrease the preparation gaps by one-third for school, postsecondary and work to improve success for children and youths.
l Increase by 20 percent households in Johnson County that are financially stable.
l Increase by one-third the number of children and adults who are healthy and avoiding risky behavior.
Each of us has a role to play in building a stronger, safer, healthier and more stable community. Join us in using service as a solution. Visit www.volunteercenterjc.org to find a local opportunity.
