Under the auspices of the Foster Grandparent Program, I volunteer at Nixon School five days per week and even though I have been a supporter of education I have had my eyes opened by the challenges and triumphs of this important system.
At Nixon from the leadership of Principal Dee Crozier, to the teachers, para educators, school counselor, administrative staff, food service, building engineer and the custodians, everyone works as a great team to foster a comfortable, supportive, nurturing and safe atmosphere for learning and student development.
I am very impressed and must say that this experience has provided me an uplifting and enjoyable experience.
I urge everyone to visit your local school to witness the effort for yourself and to volunteer if you can.
