I write today to follow up to the Oct. 29 article, “Gift is one for the books,” which shared news of donations received from the Carnegie Corporation by the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City public libraries. I’m ecstatic to share that the Marion Public Library also will receive a $10,000 donation!
Marion’s Library was established in 1905, thanks to a contribution from Andrew Carnegie, who responded to letters from Marion residents. He gave $11,500 to establish Marion’s first public library and provided constructions funds for 101 libraries in Iowa.
Public libraries remain one of the most valuable investments we can make in our shared future. Let’s continue to support them so they can keep serving everyone in our community. Visit your public library! You’ll be inspired, awed and educated.
