Violators are aware of speed limits

'They knew this was coming. They were aware of it. This didn't sneak up on them.” This, of course, was Steve Gent, Iowa Department of Transportation director of traffic and safety, quoted in the Aug. 28 Gazette ('Not so fast”).
He was referring to cities which continued to use speed enforcement cameras located closer to speed limits signs than new rules allow. His words could just have well have been directed to those who received tickets. They were aware of the lower speed limit - those signs even have red flags on them. They had plenty of time to reduce their speed from the 60 mph they should have been traveling when they approached the signs. Those cameras didn't sneak up on them.
