Vilsack is the consummate politician

Gosh, wasn't it a couple of months ago that Tom Vilsack, the Secretary of Agriculture, as one of a group of loyal lieutenants of the Obama administration, was warning us that his department would likely be required to furlough meat inspectors, resulting in disaster for consumers and farmers, as a result of the failure of Congress to act to prevent sequestration.
Sadly, Congress neglected to act, the sequester happened and our federal government has been required to function with less taxpayer money.
The April 2 Gazette story “How Vilsack beat the sequester,” however, depicts Vilsack as somewhat of a hero in that he has been clever enough to thwart that pesky sequester and was able to make sure that food inspectors will remain on the job and all the predicted disastrous shortages of food have vanished.
Vilsack, the consummate politician, who dutifully warns us of disaster and becomes our intrepid protector when it doesn't happen.
