Veterans’ care experience positive
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As Veterans Day was Nov. 11, it is time to say a few things about the VA in Iowa City and Coralville. I was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1951. For 40 years I did not go to the VA medical facility for help. I thought other people with less income should use the VA. Then the VA person came to our American Legion meeting and said use the VA or lose benefits.
So when I told other veterans I was going to the VA in Iowa City, I was told I would get poor service, long waits for a doctor, dull needles, poor parking, etc. I went to the VA, had a short wait for my appointment. My doctor was Blair W. Thornhill; what an outstanding doctor. I go to the VA in Coralville to see Dr. Thornhill and I got a big bonus of the finest nurses.
So as a veteran, thank you VA and Dr. Thornhill and nurses. Lots of love to all.
