Veteran grateful for honor flight experience

It was my honor to be a member of the Honor Flight on May 17 and I would like to make some comments on that honor.
As a Veteran chosen to go on the flight to D.C., I would like to give my impression of this trip. My emotions for the trip and the outpouring of gratitude of the Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities on our return to Cedar Rapids is just beyond what I can express! The greeting at the airport that evening was so overwhelming that it makes me very emotional. The people that thought enough of us vets to bring themselves and their children to greet us home was something I will never forget!
To know that so many showed up to welcome us back was unbelievable.
The most inspiring and humbling was the young children! They eagerly shook my hand, gave me Girl Scout Cookies, saluted me and most of all gave me a big smile and eyes that expressed that the future of our nation is and will be in good hands!
The trip was the most extraordinary event that I have experienced for many years. This was also experienced by the people we met in D.C. as well.
Thanks to the Honor Flight volunteers who accompanied us and did a fantastic job. Thanks so much.
