In a time where it takes tremendous courage to be involved in politics, I commend Monica Vernon for her tireless efforts and commitment to Cedar Rapids. Based on her proven tenacity, I recommend voters re-elect Vernon for City Council District 2.
As a young person who left the area after college and returned a few years later as an entrepreneur, I endorse Vernon as the type of leader we need on the council to keep Cedar Rapids moving forward.
Vernon listens to new ideas and is a catalyst for change while respecting our history. I can speak to Vernon's desire to hear new ideas, based on my experience explaining the NewBo beach volleyball project to her. This project brings camaraderie and health to the core of our city; vital elements to a successful metropolitan area. Besides the sporting aspect, this upcoming semi-permanent facility shows how the city can partner with the private sector to activate idle property without any cost to property taxes.
This project not only continues the momentum of recovery that Vernon has helped drive, but it will catapult preservation of the surrounding historic neighborhood. Vernon's support for projects like NewBo beach is re-enforcement that she has the vision we need on the City Council.
