Vendors not a problem at Kinnick Stadium
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 18, 2011 2:37 pm
Your Friday article on Kinnick Stadium vendors gave me a laugh, thank you. It is pretty clear that Jean Walker and the Melrose Neighborhood Association have not thought this through.
I don't live in the neighborhood, but I am pretty sure the cause of congestion on Melrose has more to do with the extra 70,000 to 90,000 people who come to either party, see the game, or both. If you think removing the dozen or so vendors will even remotely reduce the people, trash, or “disgusting mess,” you are mistaken.
They cite commercial enterprise as the problem. I wonder how popular they would be if they removed all commercial enterprise from the area. I would venture the homeowners who charge to park cars on their property are a bigger “commercial enterprise” then someone selling a steak sandwich.
I would also wager to say that commercial enterprise brings in more trash and more congestion then “big-ass turkey legs.”
I once lived in a neighborhood where I did not like the activities. I realized that the activities were there before I moved in, so I moved to a quieter neighborhood.
