VA Hospital’s work deserves recognition

For years we've heard about the wonderful works of the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics and Mercy Iowa City, and rightfully so. However, there is also a third great Iowa City hospital and that is the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital.
My brother, Phil Embree, is a Vietnam veteran. About a year ago, he contracted throat cancer and was admitted to the VA Hospital where a team of surgeons successfully removed all the cancerous tissue, including his voice box. He had a speedy recovery and his prosthesis has been placed. He already is speaking without aid. It was considered a miraculous surgery.
Everyone from admissions to surgeons to nurses and housekeeping all made him feel very much at home.
The VA Hospital in Iowa City is showing it can and is doing right for the veterans who need their expertise and have fought for our freedom.
May God bless you all.
