Use revenue to invest in body cameras

To the editor:
With all of the pros and cons of the speed cameras in Cedar Rapids and the City Council saying they are using the cameras for safety, why doesn't the city use the money from the fines and purchase body cameras for all of the Cedar Rapids Police Department?
Not only would it protect CRPD officers, but also protect the people of Cedar Rapids from any police issues, look at Dubuque and Waterloo.
Our CRPD hasn't needed to defend its way of doing their jobs, but if it were to happen wouldn't it be prudent to have a recorded copy of the incident? Why doesn't the City Council try spending something to protect our community from what other communities are dealing with. Body cameras can't hurt. Follow LA's example.
