Unions are needed
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 12, 2011 9:52 am
I have never been part of a union and my company respects its employees, so no need to complain. I do know, from firsthand experiences, that unions are still needed - at least for some.
I do believe there is a war on unions/workers - in essence a class warfare on the middle class by the hard right who are so beholden to the rich and corporations that they do their bidding to make sure workers have the lowest amount of pay and power as can be accomplished - all with a goal to further diminish, incrementally, as opportunities arise. That has been their consistent pattern by keeping minimum wages as low as possible, legislation to curb unions, and outsourcing well-paying jobs to overseas, virtual slave markets.
Unfortunately, conservatives know how to use the shell game and create wedge issues so that those most affected will continue to vote against their own economic interests. They mention God, guns, gays, which helps elect those who are, in my opinion, fascists. These fascists work closely with corporate/moneyed interests to further causes which are not necessarily good for the common man but are in line with the needs of those in power.
President Obama was called a socialist, and in my opinion, no true socialist believed that, but there are too many modern day conservatives for whom true fascists would claim as fellow travelers.
May the will of workers overcome these challenges.
