As a parent and retired educator, I am pleased that Kathleen Dowd-Ulrich is running as candidate for the Cedar Rapids school board. Ulrich will bring remarkable depth and breadth of experience, as well as decades-long professional commitment to the children and families of Cedar Rapids.
After a successful career as a secondary English teacher, Ulrich earned masters degrees in teaching and special education to better serve students at all levels. Her dedication to her students and clear affection and respect for them has earned the admiration of students, families and her peers.
Ulrich served as district representative for the Iowa State Education Association and volunteers for the Linn County Democratic Party. An internationally recognized teacher-scholar in Holocaust education, she serves on the Joan and David Thaler Holocaust Education Committee. She also has been adjunct professor at the University of Iowa, Coe College and Kirkwood. She has long experience in working collaboratively.
I have known Ulrich for 30 years. She is an enthusiastic, dedicated supporter of our children and schools. She will focus on getting all students what they need and deserve.
