U.S. culture like story of 2 wolves

This story of two wolves (related to personality) rather fascinates me. Here, related to culture.

Inside each of us there are two warring wolves. One is a bit timid. He is gentle and affectionate, very slow to growl. But the other one is aggressive, sometimes hostile, especially to hands reaching out to him in ways foreign to the pack. One of these eventually will win that ongoing war.

Our culture is much like the two wolves. We war against each other on many fronts. We fight tooth and claw not only to hold onto our ingrained tendencies but sometimes even to impose them on those outside of the pack.

Which side will win? As with the wolves, it's the side that is fed. Fed by the media, fed by those in power, fed when the timid “wolf” hangs back and the aggressive one grows fat and strong, dominating the food dish (media).

Some nails need clipping, tempers mellowed, the food dish shared, to give a semblance of peace. As Jules Renard said, “On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it.” The human spirit craves peace as creatures of the wild would, if only they weren't such beast.
