U.S. Census: Why you should care

The U.S. Census determines how half a trillion dollars in federal money will be divided up between the states and local governments. This money includes funding for infrastructure, roads, education, disaster relief, and social programs.
An example of how census data is used for social programs is Social Security and Medicare. It determines and forecasts the number of people eligible for benefits based on age, and to forecast the number of people eligible for benefits, including disability benefits. The importance of accurate census data is far reaching and impacts just about every aspect of our lives and communities.
If you want Iowa to receive its fair share of funding, please make sure your household has completed it. You can either complete it online, by phone, or by mail.
