Two speed cameras are better than one

To the editor:
In an editorial The Gazette agreed with the Iowa Department of Transportation that the cameras on the exits of the S-curves served no purpose ('DOT camera ruling is reasonable,” March 25). Bluntly, you are wrong.
Having cameras on the entrance and exits of the area creates a speed enforcement zone. The software on the photo processing is able to use both cameras to ensure no one hits the gas after the first camera and slowed down on the second. This is what has really created the lower speeds on the interstate in downtown Cedar Rapids. With one camera, all you have to do is slow down at a point and then speed up, which is exactly what is not desired. Moving the second northbound camera so it is no longer in sight of the speed change is a good idea, but removing it will create issues and accidents. I wish I was surprised neither the DOT nor the board could see this.
