I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Somalia 1967-1969. I was involved in organizing sports programs, teaching English, and constructing a school.
During my time in Somalia I shared a house with two Somali teachers. I worked and socialized with teachers, construction workers, shopkeepers, village elders, truck drivers, and neighbors.
The friendliness, helpfulness, and community spirit of Somalis I knew was akin to the friendliness, helpfulness, and community spirit I grew up with in rural Iowa. These people were just good old down home folks.
It is very unfair when the president of the United States tries to incite enmity toward an entire immigrant community (The majority of whom are U.S. citizens) by describing them falsely with gutter language words.
Shame on him and shame on all his enablers.
