Trump supporters’ Faustian bargain

In Cal Thomas's syndicated column, 'Mass murders are a symptom,” Aug. 11, he quotes Alexander Solzhenitsyn in support of Thomas's reasoning for mass shootings: 'Men have forgotten God; that's why all this has happened.” I would beg to differ.
The men - and they are mostly men - who have forgotten God are the Trumpian Republicans and Trumpian Christians who have decided to uncritically support our President. And they have done so in a Faustian deal for power, selling their souls to achieve their agenda.
President Donald Trump is not the Antichrist, but he certainly does not resemble, even remotely, anything that can be found in 1 Corinthians 13 or Matthew 25, two of the most important touchstones of the New Testament. The damage being done to Christianity, our country, and our world because of this deal is incalculable. To paraphrase Reinhold Niebuhr, we can only hope for the wisdom to see the things that should be changed and the courage to change them.
