True disrespect is ignoring speed limit
The Gazette Opinion Staff

A recent letter (“Passive policing not respectful to people,” Aug. 5, by Jeffrey Kocur) suggested that traffic cameras are disrespectful to Cedar Rapids residents and insulting to visitors.
Really?
Ignoring the posted speed limits is neither a sign of respect of law enforcement or driving safety. Since the installation of the cameras, there have been no fatalities on the Interstate 380 S-curve, so suggesting that the cameras are a “money grab” is equally insulting.
Additionally, the traffic cameras allow law enforcement to focus on more serious traffic violators and other serious issues than motor vehicle drivers who ignore the photo-enforced sign directly below the speed limit signs. The traffic cameras will simply go away if drivers obeyed the posted speed limits.
