Truck drivers not at fault in most accidents

In Herman Lenz's March 21 letter, he opines that lower speed limits for trucks are the answer leading to fewer fatalities on our highways. Insurance company surveys consistently prove split speed limits are more dangerous than same speed limits for trucks and cars.
Several years ago, the Insurance Institute on Highway Safety found that in more than 70 percent of accidents between trucks and other vehicles, the other vehicles were found to be at fault. We don't need lower speed limits for trucks; what we need is smarter drivers of other vehicles.
Don't tailgate a truck, don't drive in the “blind spot” and don't pull in front of a truck and slow down.
I'm a retired truck driver with over 3 million miles with no tickets or chargeable accidents. I've seen a lot of bad drivers on both sides, cars and trucks, all over North America.
One final thought for those of you who seem to hate trucks and trucks drivers: Remember that everything you eat, drink, wear and use came to you by truck.
