Train to Chicago just makes too much sense
The Gazette Opinion Staff
May. 27, 2011 10:49 am
Regarding House Speaker Kraig Paulsen, R-Hiawatha, saying no to a $230 million federal grant for Amtrak service from Iowa City to Chicago, with more than 600 jobs needed for so many families. Let's see, Paulsen, we the people pay your salary and all the extras you take in.
You do not care about what we think. You're too busy trying to take down the middle class.
So many of us recall our railroads. How great it was to get on a train and go everywhere. We may not go everywhere, but Chicago, yes. Thousands will love it.
Let's see, the Republicans are so busy handing over everything to the oil companies, while we pay high gas prices, resulting in high food costs. Wall Street making billions, they pat them on the back.
Have you ever been to the Grand Cayman Islands and other places in the world where our corporations hide their money and pay no taxes? Hmm, does that mean we can hide our dollars, no taxes? Corporations are still leaving this country in order to make more money and to hire workers with meager pay. People, are you happy about all the wonderful deals for themselves?
Most Iowans would be elated to get on a train to Chicago. Sports fans, how neat that would be - football, Bears, baseball, Cubs, White Sox. So convince them, we can do it.
If they build it, they will come.
