Traffic cams are just a new tool for safety
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Laws for our safety are enforced by police. Maybe some of those resenting traffic cameras are complaining because they got a ticket for breaking the law. Gov. Terry Branstad said he did not like paying for a ticket mailed from another state.
Revenue collected by tickets would have been collected if there were enough police available to write tickets. Extra police are added to highways on holidays, but it costs money to maintain that level. Police already can check speeding by plane.
When taxes are cut, creative law enforcement is needed, like planes and cameras.
