Traffic cameras create a safety zone

To the editor:
I was dismayed to read the May 10 article saying that Cedar Rapids is getting a reputation as a 'speed trap” because of our cameras ('Is C.R. getting national rep as speed trap?).
It seems to me that they must be doing a great job of catching those who think they can save a few minutes by pushing their speed.
Admittedly, I am one who sets my cruise control at the posted speed limit, thus eliminating concern that I might be ticketed. Amazing how that simple act can save a great deal of anxiety on the highway.
Let it be known that Cedar Rapids cares more about lives - even those of people traveling through - than saving 15 or 20 minutes on a trip which could easily end up in catastrophe. I vote for 'safety zones.”
