Traffic cameras are necessary

I almost believe that The Gazette should require the writers of letters degrading the speed cameras to include if they have received a ticket from the cameras.
Now as for Steve Singleton's July 5 letter, his comments were ridiculous for one reason - does he remember those white signs with black printing coming into, going through, and leaving Cedar Rapids that set the speed limits. They were here long before the cameras. Obey them and no cameras, disobey them and you get cameras. Safety was the driving force and I believe the statistics relate this. If one life has been saved or one accident prevented can you argue that they are not necessary?
