Toss letters that cannot run as written

Other than profanity and the length of a letter, why does The Gazette edit its letters?
By doing this, the sender may have words or key phrases taken out and it can put a different slant on the article that the sender is trying to convey.
If the editor feels the letter cannot be published as it was sent in, simply throw it away.
