Too many bad decisions
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Cedar Rapids is becoming the city of bad decisions.
We have the new convention center/hotel that we don't need as it is going to be a monetary loss to the city. The new library could have been moved back into a renovated building at the old site. Tearing down the public works building and putting up another expensive building. The city is not sure where the money for its share is going to come from.
We are going to close schools but can build a Taj Mahal for school administration.
Where is it going to stop? Use money to repair our streets and sewer system.
We need a new police chief, so we are going to spend extra money to put out a nationwide search for candidates. What is wrong with appointing someone from our own police department? We have a lot of good people in our department who can fill this position.
I have one in mind. Capt. Tom Jonker would make this city and the police department a chief to be proud of.
