Toll fees would be fairer alternative

To the editor:
I must disagree with the gentlemen who opts for increasing our gas taxes instead of toll fees ('Gas tax better option than toll roads,” Jan. 16).
With gas tax increase, we are making only Iowans pay the fees. If we induce tolls on our major highways, i.e. Interstate 80 and Interstate 35, we would be assessing the fees to everyone who uses the highways, not just Iowans. It seems to me that this would be fair to everyone.
As far as waiting in line to pay a toll, get an I-Pass and there is no waiting at all. I use mine when I travel through Illinois and the rest of the eastern states and it saves me money because tolls are half price when using the I-Pass.
