Time for a modernized 2nd Amendment

Many people defend the Second Amendment, but people I've talked to don't even know what it says. Written almost 236 years ago, it was a badly needed right of the people to own firearms. Without that right, Americans would still be British citizens. The Continental Army could have never defeated the British Empire on its own. That “well regulated militia” was “necessary to the security of a free state.”
That was then, this is now! Today our “well regulated militia” is called Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Space Force. Anyone who says we need to arm ordinary citizens is giving no credence to our national armed forces, which seems kind of insulting.
As far as the Second Amendment goes, a modern version is definitely needed. No honest and law abiding citizen should be denied the privilege of gun ownership. That is something the aforementioned services have given their lives to protect.
