To the editor:
I'm working on Tim Conroy's campaign for an Iowa City Council at-large seat because he represents the best of Iowa City's future. I've worked with him on arts and community service projects and I find him to be hardworking, smart and interested in keeping Iowa City a great place to live while moving the city forward to meet today's challenges and tomorrow's ideals.
I've learned he is open minded and inquisitive. He listens and he is thoughtful in his decision making. A couple people have asked me if I think he is too young to serve on council. To that I answer a resounding 'no!” My experience at work and in the community have taught me that what matters is caring about people, having a sense of community, being committed to sound principles, demonstrating integrity and fairness and being willing to shoulder at least your share of the load. Demonstrating those things has nothing to do with age and everything to do with leadership. He demonstrates them in everything he does.
When he asked me to work on his campaign, he told me he would bring a moderate, rational perspective to city leadership. I believe he will do that. I also believe he has the experience and the desire to make strides in affordable housing in Iowa City and that he will work to maintain a balance between growth and stewardship of Iowa City's historic assets.
