On June 2 we Democratic voters in Johnson County will be nominating our preferred candidates for the Board of Supervisors. For the first time we will be nominating people for geographical districts rather than for the county as a whole. This puts voters like me in an awkward situation. Two people I know and support – Rod Sullivan and V Vixmer-Oraiz – live in the same district and are competing for the same seat. I do not want to choose, but I feel I must.
I have known V for several years. I admire V’s intelligence, energy, and skills. If victorious in the primary, V will receive my enthusiastic and well-deserved vote in the general election. I have known and worked with Rod for almost 35 years. He has put his heart and soul into being the best possible supervisor ever since he was first elected in 2004. If he was a grizzled old guy like me, I would say, Rod, you’ve done enough. Let others take over. But that’s not the case. He has plenty of fire left in his belly. We need that combination of knowledge, experience and fire at this moment. In the end, I will be voting for Rod.
