This is how MAGA thinks, whether or not you can stomach it

The editorial “AmeriCorps cuts make no sense” reflects the views of many people, but not the MAGA crowd. To MAGA, cutting AmeriCorps makes perfect sense and is consistent with other moves the Trump administration has made.
In MAGA’s view, AmeriCorps volunteers helping their neighbors recover from a disaster is bad for a couple of reasons. First, it represents the government stepping in to help citizens. The MAGA playbook, Project 2025, makes it clear that the federal government should have a diminished role in “internal” affairs, whether they be enforcement of civil rights, protection of the environment, or response to natural disasters. The Trump administration has even proposed shutting down FEMA. As U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has demonstrated, kindness toward humans has no place in the Trump administration. Second, serving as an AmeriCorps volunteer introduces young people to others who may be less fortunate than them. They learn to see the unfortunate as normal human beings, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, or sexual preference. MAGA, on the other hand, doesn’t want to acknowledge the existence of people who are not white, native born straight Christians.
Learning to think like MAGA may be difficult for many of us, but the only way to stop MAGA’s evil is to begin thinking like them and realize how sick it makes you feel.
