The April 3 guest editorial from the NY Daily News ("Tough Talk on Putin Undercut by Third Term Nonsense") notes that our current president says he is not kidding about running for a third term, and that one way around the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution is for him to switch roles and then, after the election, have his cohort resign so that he would then be the POTUS yet again.
The article needs to be supplemented by a reference to the 12th Amendment to our Constitution, which in its last sentence states: "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." The "switcheroo" idea is a nonstarter.
