There are Bible “readers” and Bible “doers”

I read your Oct. 4 article, stating a recent study that shows Cedar Rapids is one of the 10 least Bible-minded cities in the country.
I would like to invite you and some representatives of the Barna Group to Cedar Rapids for a week so you can see how wrong the study is.
First of all, I believe there are Bible “readers” and Bible “doers.” Bibles readers read the “Word” but may not act on what they have read. On the other hand, Bible “doers” go to church and listen to the “Word.” After church, the Bible “doers” go back to their neighborhoods, their homes and their work places and put the “Word” into action by helping those in need with their needs. This is what we call “living our faith.”
“Doers” live their faith by volunteering at various places including the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Block by Block, Affordable Housing Network, Community Health Free Clinic, Catholic Worker House and one of the food pantries, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Young Parents Network, just to name a few.
Why do “doers” do what they do? Because we love easing other peoples' burdens and problems. Jesus said, “come and see.” Consider this an invitation to “come and see” our faith-filled city, Cedar Rapids.
