The people say offices should stay at Westdale

I have worked at Westdale Mall for more than 20 years. Granted, it is not the mall it used to be and it may never be again, but for someone to say to tear it down (it is only 30 years old) is about as stupid as it is to spend $12.5 million on a building that is 100 years old, was inadequate before the flood, not enough parking and across the street from the river.
What is wrong with that picture?
Linn County has already spent a bundle of Federal Emergency Management Agency money (yours and mine) on a temporary office place; it looks like a lot more than was necessary.
If they took a vote of the people for county offices to stay at Westdale, it would have been “yes.” The people who work there want to stay. There is everything we need - parking, elevators, etc. It is hard to believe that it would take $12.5 million to fix this space to what county supervisors think it should be.
A recent letter writer said supervisors had looked at the numbers and made the right choice by moving administrative offices back to the old building. This was their choice, not the people's. I don't think they ever intended to go anywhere except to the old place.
We put these people in office and we can take them out. All you people who have been complaining because they are leaving Westdale, this is your chance to be heard. The primary election is June 8. Two of the supervisors are up for re-election, so get out there and vote.
