The party of no turns its back on Afghanistan
Dec. 25, 2022 9:09 am
Shame on Sens. Chuck Grassley and Mitch McConnell for not voting for legislation funding an Afghanistan refugee support bill that is a part of the trillion-dollar budget currently before Congress.
By voting against the Afghan Adjustment Act not only hurts those Afghans who helped us during the 20 years of war, but sends the wrong message to allies across the globe that America is untrustworthy. We were wrong in pulling out of that country in the way we did and I fault our current president for not anticipating the negative consequences. We left that country in worse shape than before the onset of the war.
If we have a moral standing or care about a country’s failure or success we have an obligation of not just doing what is right for them but for our own institutional beliefs and for those who sacrificed so much.
I think Grassley’s decision is a horrible choice between what is right and what his real motivation is. He and McConnell are two of a kind. They both have too much political baggage and they are blinded by their convoluted thoughts with their “no” votes because they think they can hurt the Democrats. They usually have nothing else to offer, no plan or conception.
