The library should ask for less next time

To the editor:
I'm sorry, library. I'm sorry you didn't get your tax levy. I'm sorry I couldn't vote yes. I'm sorry Noah Penn ('Library is student's favorite place,” Oct. 24) will be disappointed with cuts you may have to make.
I also apologize for the paucity of able-bodied voters.
The library is beautiful and offers everything anyone could want for entertainment or need for education. It is a perfect replacement for the flooded library and will serve us well for many years to come. I enjoy using the computers, checking out books, downloading e-books, and visiting the Greyhound Cafe. I have even used the Notary Public service.
But I do wonder, library, why you couldn't have been a little less greedy in your request? If you wanted $10 from your dad, ask for $15 and you might get $10. But if you asked for $50, he might say forget it. Particularly if he doesn't know for sure how you're going to use it or how you've spent your money in the past. Please try again soon, library. But I do hope you will let us know how you intend to spend it and what you will do to control your expenses, keeping in mind you are spending someone else's money. And citizens of Cedar Rapids, it takes two minutes to vote, it is our right and our responsibility.
