Thank you to all involved in Honor Flight

Regarding the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., on April 26: It was a memorable day. A big thank you to whoever thought up this event, to those who planned it and those who carried it through and paid for it, with nothing left to chance, all carefully planned to ensure that every veteran had a great day. They did.
The homecoming was awesome. What a welcome awaited them. Each veteran received an enthusiastic welcome as he/she passed through a walkway of flags and groups representing civic groups and organizations, including the gorgeously costumed Knights of Columbus, side by side with a good representation of camouflaged military personnel and many organizations in their colorful garb. Mixed in between and extending forever was a multitude of relatives and friends who had come to show their appreciation to some of the remaining veterans of World War II.
What a great city we live in, what a caring community. Thank you Hy-Vee and all your generous contributions and the many folks who worked and made this event a success.
Even though the plane was very late, it seemed that everyone stayed. For us whose day started at 3 a.m. it was a very long day but well worth the aching back and lack of sleep.
