Thank lawmakers for fighting against cuts
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In response to Judy McDowell's letter on Aug. 13, “Tell congressmen drastic food cuts not acceptable”, I feel it is important to point out that she makes a serious omission.
None of the members of Congress she mentioned supported the bill that included the “unconscionable $40 billion” cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. In fact, Reps. Bruce Braley and Dave Loebsack voted against this bill for the very reason McDowell writes.
I encourage McDowell and others to call Reps. Braley and Loebsack and thank them for fighting against these “unconscionable” cuts.
