Term limits will end bad politician cycle
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 12, 2010 11:57 pm
Year after year, we elect politicians who vow to lead us to Nirvana. No more blatant corruption, pandering to lobbyists, sex scandals that so many in Washington decry while impregnating their aides and sycophants, and not have the intestinal fortitude to make an honest and simple decision to support legislation that will make a difference.
We elect, then start getting frustrated and hook on to every lunatic who tells us how angry we should be. The cycle repeats itself and nothing ever really changes.
Until we finally impose term limits on elected offices, the “Saturday Night Live” scenario will continue. Elected officials have a fairly good idea of what is right and wrong. They just cannot quite shake the nightmare that reminds them that this group or that group just sent an e-mail reminding the congressman of how much money was put in his/her account to run for re-election and support their cause.
Term limits should happen tomorrow. Politicians will never let it happen.
