This year marks the 90th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, securing a woman's right to vote in America. We should remember that many struggled to make that amendment happen. Carrie Lane Chapman Catt was one.
The National 19th Amendment Society is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation of a historical landmark, the girlhood home, circa 1856, of Carrie Lane Chapman Catt. It is located three miles south of Charles City at 2379 Timber Ave. On Aug. 21, the society is planning a celebration marking the 90th anniversary. The public is invited to attend from 1 to 4 p.m. that day for a variety of activities and a tour of Catt's girlhood home. Special activities also are planned for children. The home is also open at other times throughout the week. For more information, check www.catt.org
We always must remember the lessons taught us by history and teach our children and grandchildren.
