Tax cuts not good for general welfare

Your editorial on March 5 stated that the taxes on commercial property are a “true burden on business, small businesses in particular.” Please explain your rationale. It has been my observation and experience that tax costs are passed on to the consumer and that tax cuts are pocketed by the entrepreneur.
Please give an example. Name a business type and explain how a cut in their tax would benefit the general welfare.
Cities do not and cannot operate at a profit. Our expenses for services are more or less fixed and constantly rising. Energy costs, material costs, fair increases in labor costs and costs imposed by state regulations have to be paid for by taxes and fees levied on our citizens.
The Iowa League of Cities has research detailing the cost of the tax cuts Gov. Branstad proposes to cities. How do you propose this tremendous loss to city revenue can be made up without drastic cuts in services or residential property taxes going through the roof?
