Tax brackets make no sense

My property taxes went up $126 this year, more than a 10 percent increase. I asked the person who took my money if he was getting any complaints. He said yes, that valuations went up on the lower-priced homes and the homes above $400,000 went down. He directed me to the city assessor's office on Sixth Street SW.
They were very nice to my wife and me, and told me the valuation on my property went up $1,800, so the tax increase. You could get help if you made under $20,000.
There are no provisions to deduct prescriptions, medical costs, glasses, dentistry, medical insurance, hearing aids, etc. So we on the lowest end of income have to pay more, but those in the biggest homes, who can afford it, pay less.
