Tanning salon owner opposes ban

To the editor:
As an owner of an indoor tanning salon for 19 years, I will be the first to say a 2 percent loss of clients will not put me out of business. I am opposed to this ban solely due to the infringement of my individual rights/liberties to be a parent. At 17, I raised my hand to protect and defend with 'parental consent.” I would like to see a bill that would include regulation for age with parental consent.
If we are OK with laws banning our kids to such things as indoor tanning, where will it stop? Sixteen ounce sodas, no hunting and don't forget the dangers of tackle football. Education and common sense can take you far in this world. It is state law that an individual must have proper eyewear to enter a tanning bed. Obviously a safety issue to protect eyes. I find it ironic, with no helmet laws, that we don't show the same concern for teens riding on or operating motorcycles. Myself, a disabled vet, small business owner, father of four, I have never needed government to hold my hand nor do I need big brother to tell me how to be a parent.
