John Swanson deserves a candidate seat on the Kirkwood Community College board of education.
John has a near-perfect profile for this position. As a young man, he held full-time positions on the Kirkwood staff and faculty for 15 years. He worked daily during Kirkwood's formative years with Kirkwood students in student activities, academic classrooms and community education activities.
John later spent 14 years working for community organizations in the profit and non-profit areas. He served the Meth-Wick community as director. He was founding director of the Iowa Transportation Museum in Grinnell. He served on the board of the Cedar Rapids Community Theatre and the Cedar Rapids Downtown District.
Currently, John is the director of the Cedar Rapids Science Center, guiding it through its difficult post-flood days.
He supports extension of the 20.25 cent tax levy in support of Kirkwood facilities and programs because much of Kirkwood's growth and development as a nationally acclaimed premier college over the years is linked with this levy.
