To the editor:
I've known Susie Weinacht for many years. When she volunteered to help MADD Dads (Men Against Destruction Defending Against Drugs And Social Disorder) receive their non-profit status, I quickly learned that she is someone who is deeply committed to building a better future for young people and that she has a unique blend of passion and work ethnic that make her a great advocate for others.
As the truancy officer for the Cedar Rapids Community School District, I have a unique firsthand perspective on the kinds of challenges that young people in Cedar Rapids are facing. While there is no magic solution to these problems, there are a number of things that our community can do to ensure better outcomes for our young people, and to build a community that they feel invested in.
Over her past term on city council, I have seen her work champion policy, #CRYOUth, and move initiatives forward that seek to address these issues.
Cedar Rapids will have a brighter tomorrow if those in elected positions stay engaged with young people. I am certain Weinacht will advocate for their best interests.
