Support a Cedar Rapids water park

To the editor:
Some heartening news was printed April 3 in 'Plans pitched for water park in Cedar Rapids.”
I have lived here the majority of 60-plus years and know from experience the need for something for our children and families to do for recreation. A water park with several features would help fill the void.
Now the negative. If the water park is placed where the article stated, what would be the route used to get to it? It will be seen from Interstate 380 as travelers pass by with the hopes of drawing them into our community. However, how do they get from point A to point B? The current route would be on heavily traveled Kirkwood Boulevard, 66th Avenue or through residential J Street.
Now for the 'here we go again” part. As with the attempt at a casino and ultimate defeat because of outside interests feeling threatened with competition, so goes the 'threat” that Waterloo sees from something 'only one and a half hours away.” When did free enterprise come to a screeching halt in America? When can one city dictate what another, much larger, city or private enterprise can or cannot do within the city? It is time for free enterprise to once again make itself known in this area. No vote is necessary or tax dollars needed, so far, to complete this plan. Make it known that we support this endeavor.
