Subscriber poll results sadden reader

To the editor:
I am saddened and somewhat appalled at the subscriber poll results ('The Gazette Gives Back”) posted in Jan. 31 Gazette showing that the Cedar Valley Humane Society will get more free advertising than any other altruistic organization.
I have had cats and dogs in my life that were wept over when they died of old age. All were spayed, all had large areas to run and the lives of last two spanned almost 30 years.
I think it is a sad commentary when dogs and cats are provided more in funds to solicit contributions than are organizations that help the homeless, the out-of-work families, the abused, the sick and those who, with some guidance or direction, could become responsible adults.
