Street repairs should be priority

I find it curious that the city can 'find” approximately $2 million for a face-lift for Greene Square Park in downtown, which it doesn't need.
Yet, the city could never find that kind of money during the past 20 years to fix the streets, without passing a 'special” tax.
And somewhere at the bottom of the city's priority list are the historical properties and treasures that are slipping into obscurity.
The people who named Cedar Rapids an All-America City have evidently not driven on our streets.
Established businesses in Cedar Rapids get sweetheart deals on prime real estate and avoid property taxes for a couple of generations.
Guess who has to make up the difference? Mr. and Mrs. Residential Taxpayer get stuck with a bill for a meal they were not invited to.
Maybe it is time to find a more tax-friendly environment.
